Powder Coating of Training Simulator for US Federal Air Marshals (FAM)

Based on our knowledge and experience with powder coating, Broken Arrow Powder Coating has been awarded numerous bids from the US Department of Defense and contractors of US Federal Air Marshal Unit.


The aluminum aerospace training simulator shown here is coated in a white, polyester triglycidyl isocyanurate (TGIC ) powder coat finish, which matches Airbus’s OEM color specifications. The TGIC powder coat formulation features very good adhesion characteristics along with corrosion resistance, providing a strong, durable exterior finish.

Prior to the powder coating process, the simulator components are carried on our overhead conveyor system through 100-ft our conversion coat process. Conversion coat process includes organic washing, ambient city water rinsing plus iron phosphate conversion coating, non-chrome sealing, and drying in our drying oven. The components then traverse through our automated spray booth and cure oven per powder manufacturers specifications.


Broken Arrow Powder Coating ensures that all training simulator components meet MIL-I-45208 quality certification standards prior to their visual inspection by the Department of Homeland Security.

Powder Coating of Galvanized Zinc Monotube Structures

for Department of Transportation

Broken Arrow Powder Coating has assisted the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, City of Tulsa Oklahoma, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC Engineers) with the development of a powder coating specification for transportation highway elements such as, hand rails, light poles, and ornamental components. The consultation led to the powder coating of hot dipped, galvanized zinc, monotube interstate highway sign structures. Once we were awarded the bid, we were able to ramp up our powder coating operation in just four days to meet the increased demand.


The 35-ft. highway sign structures received an initial SSPC-SP1 brush blast and mechanical sanding to prepare the galvanized surface for powder coating. The overhead highway sign structures include several components and were powder coated in Broken Arrow’s 10 x 12 x 35-ft. oven.

Powder coating galvanized zinc metals extends the life, thus reducing repair and replacement costs over the lifetime of the structure. By encapsulating the heavy metal zinc structures, transportation departments lessen their impact on the environment by not allowing zinc or zinc oxide to leach into the eco-system.

Powder Coating of Hydraulic Vacuum Lifter for The Pipeline Industry

A customer in the oil and gas industry contacted Broken Arrow, seeking a solution for the powder coating of their hydraulic vacuum lifter system. The vacuum systems which are used in pipeline construction, see a great deal of wear due to the harsh environment of the industry. The OEM had been utilizing a 3-part epoxy paint application, which was causing units to fade and rust prematurely.


Broken Arrow Powder Coating recommended coating the vacuum lifters with a 2-4 mil zinc rich epoxy powder coat primer, and a 2-4 mil polyurethane topcoat. This new powder coating application has resulted in increased savings, streamlined turnaround times, and enhanced overall appearance.
